I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed right now...I'm used to being busy, but I'm not used to being busy with social things. The norm for me is rushing to and from soccer things, or to and from school...right now there seems to be an endless stream of social invitations which I'm alternating between being excited about and feeling crushed beneath the weight of it all. But each invitation is a unique opportunity (such as dinner with a friend back from Iraq or dinner with a friend about to move out of the state), so I don't feel like we can turn down any of them. But my pork chops! At home on the counter! Thawing for dinner tonight! *sigh* The pork chops will have to wait, I guess.
Chris and I went for a visit to the Goodyear place near work today at lunch. My poor car (Cecile) hasn't had new shoes since I bought her back in '04, and it's time to get her refitted. She also needs an oil change and new brakes, so tomorrow will be her big day at the car salon, much to the chagrin of my AmEx card. I'm trying to stay focused on the OMGHUGEAMOUNT of rewards points I'll get with this purchase, right before I drain my savings to pay off the debt. Bleh. I'll be happy to have new tires and a refreshed Cecile, yes, but sad to see the savings go away. Ahh well, it's life, I suppose. More money can always be made, and the Monopoly box hasn't been touched in months. I'm sure no one will notice if a few bright orange $50,000 notes disappear from there. :p
So...school. Yeah. When I signed on for the MLA program, I was told that in lieu of a thesis, I'd simply have to put together a portfolio of various work that I'd done throughout the program. Easy, thought I. Riiight. Not so easy. I was handed a packet of "how to put together your portfolio" in my first class at Baker, and I filed it away, thinking I'd dig into it later. A year's gone by, and I finally looked at it this weekend. Heh. Seems I have to not only put in a few key "artifacts" from my classes, but also have to formulate an argument to show how all of the things I've taken tie together to form a workable program for which I should be granted a degree. And then I have to go before a board to defend my portfolio, and will be rated on not only my argument and physical portfolio, but also on my posture, eye contact, etc. The problem? I've taken classes just willy-nilly, and have NO idea how to tie them all together. Hah!
Here's just a short list of the classes I'll have under my belt:
Serial Killers
Spanish for Interaction
The History of Great Britain
Male and Female Roles in Contemporary American Lit
Conflict Resolution
Stages of Adult Development
Multicultural Film in the 20th Century
Hate Groups in America
The Power of Myth
*blinks*
Ummm....yeeeah. Why oh why didn't I look at the packet before??? *headdesk* But, umm, it's all good, right? Right? There's sure to be an easy way to tie it all together, right? Yeah? *hopes* Maybe tomorrow I'll think of a way. Maybe?
*ahem*
Moving on, a friend had a friend ask her if she knew of anyone who could pull together a simple website for a lawn care business, and my friend gave the guy my name. Yay! Simple sites are my speciality. Well, true, they're all I can build, heh. But yay! A new project to work on! Because, yes, I don't have enough to keep me busy, har. But yay! A new project that will distract me from the other things I HAVE to do!
I am nothing if not easily distracted.
And also, I think I will cross post this on my LJ, just until I figure out which of these sites I'll really hang on to. :)
